Vector Illustration
There are two types of computer
graphics:
raster graphics,
where each pixel is separately defined (as in a digital photograph
or bitmap), and
vector graphics,
where mathematical formulas are used to draw lines and shapes, which
are then interpreted at the viewer's end to produce the graphic.
Using vectors results in infinitely sharp graphics and often smaller
file sizes.
Vector images can be scaled to any size
without distortion, since it is composed of smooth lines and curves,
as opposed to pixels in a raster bitmap image, which are square.
Vector graphics are preferred for many direct printing methods like
screen printing, and large format output such as signs, banners,
billboards and tradeshow displays.
Logo Repair
We specialize in creating high quality
vector artwork, and begin most design projects in this format. It is
very easy to convert vector images to a raster bitmap, but not the
other way around. If you need your logo turned back into vector art,
we can help! Years of experience will bring your web logo, sketch or
ideas back to life in a clean, crisp vector graphic. We offer free
quotes on every project before work has begun, and can usually turn
projects in 24-48 hours!

Example showing effect of vector
graphics versus raster graphics. The original vector-based
illustration is at the left. The upper-right image illustrates
magnification of 7x as a vector image. The lower-right image
illustrates the same magnification as a bitmap image. Raster images
are based on pixels and thus scale with loss of clarity, while
vector-based images can be scaled indefinitely without degrading. |
